Preparing for 2024

Update to Tech Nest, Helpful Links, and Resources to Read During the Holidays

PERSONAL NEWS

Thank you to everyone who’s reached out via comments, direct messages, emails, and texts about my recent career announcement. For those that haven’t seen yet, I’ve recently accepted the role of Head of Marketing at Roofer.com.

You may have noticed I’ve dropped that name more than once in the newsletter these past weeks. I’ve been working with Roofer.com for a few months now, and the pieces just came together for me to join full-time.

“That’s cool Nate, but what does this mean for the newsletter and podcast?”

Ideally, not much. My aim is to continue delivering podcasts on a weekly basis, as well as newsletters. As you can imagine, there may be some weeks when the workload is greater than others and I may have to go a week without publishing. For those that are of the belief that consistency is what builds audiences and great product—I’m with you. But every once in a while, I have to create buffer. Sorry in advance if I miss a week.

This will be my last newsletter article for 2023 as I begin to prepare for 2024 (as I hope many of you are doing also). I want to be sure I’m taking adequate time to reset, plan, establish focus and purpose, and spend time with friends and family. (Yes, I’ll also be out running quite a bit.)

Between now and the start of 2024, I have you covered. Below is every article since I started the newsletter back up, in addition to other proptech resources I recommend you add to your weekly reading.

Cheers to a successful 2023 and to an even bigger year in 2024! 🥂

Marketing Articles to Catch Up On

It’s my fullest intention to deliver value with each article I published this year. The newsletter averages a 57.3% open rate and a 7.2% click-through rate. I can sleep at night with those metrics.

That being said, here’s every article I published this year in case you missed any or wanted to revisit one during the upcoming holidays.

Hire Builders, Not Task Doers. This article talks about why getting your early marketing hires right is key to achieving growth. I consider this foundational to any marketing program.

What to Do about Plateauing Growth. When growth begins to taper, what are practical steps you can take to correct course? This article attempts to point you in the right direction.

Create Great Content and Solve Customers’ Problems. Too many think creating content for inbound traffic is a mysterious endeavor. If all you did was effectively solve your customers problems, your content program would explode.

Demand Capture vs. Demand Generation. May be a bold claim, but this article could save you 1-2 years of testing and from burning tens, if not, hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Product Is Your Best Marketing Channel. The title says it all and this is a hill I’m willing to die on.

Get More from Your Google Ads Data. Don’t let the technical title scare you off. Even as a founder, you should know how to maximize your ad spend.

Data Is Content. Probably this year’s most popular article by way of messages and replies. Learn why and how to leverage your data to create incredible content—and the benefits of doing so.

Setting Up Your Affiliate Program for Success. This had to be this years least popular article and I’m honestly baffled why. Affiliate programs are super-chargers for marketing. I want y’all to succeed with affiliate marketing.

Newsjacking. How you can be in the news, when you’re not the subject of the news.

Poor Onboarding Is a Silent Poison in Your Startup. Replicating success in your organization starts with day one for every new employee. Want to magnify mistakes and increase your burn? Have poor onboarding.
